UK’S BIGGEST 24 HOUR CYCLING CHALLENGE HEADS TO ADELAIDE
Inaugural Revolve24 to take place as a part of the Tour Down Under 2018.
Revolve24, the UK’s leading 24 hour endurance cycling challenge, is headed to Adelaide Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 January 2018, as an associated event for the Santos Tour Down Under.
The inaugural weekend long festival will be one of the first events to take place at Australia’s newest world-class motorsport park, The Bend.
Hundreds of riders will descend onto the newly launched Bend Motorsport Park for Revolve24 to experience the world class 7.779km track, made up of multiple climbs and falls. Riders can choose between 24 hour, 12 hour and 6 hour challenges and enter as a soloist or a team of 2, 4, 6 or 8.
The Australian event is based on the success of UK’s Revolve24 which is now in its third year. Revolve24 takes place every September at Kent’s Brands Hatch GP track and sees hundreds of riders enjoying the smooth asphalt and the steep climbs of the world-class 3.8km motor circuit.
Revolve24 has captured the market for closed circuit cycling endurance events, with riders travelling from all over the UK and Europe to take part – and in 2017 from the USA. Revolve24 UK works in partnership with other famous European circuits.
In 2016 13,000 riders took part in 24hr events at Le Mans, Zandvoort, Rad Am Ring, Monza as well as Brands Hatch. There were over 23,000 on site spectators. With an increasing popularity, and the inclusion of Revolve24 Australia, participation and on-site spectator numbers are forecast to grow by 20% in 2017-2018.
This year, Revolve24 UK is working in conjunction with the BIKE Channel’s PRO Coach programme to offer riders a place on the pro-cycling BIKE Channel Canyon team. Following months of training with World Tour experienced coaches Rob Hayles and Brian Smith, two cyclists will go head to head at Revolve24 to win a 2018 season contract with BIKE Channel Canyon. Riders can apply online via The BIKE Channel.
Revolve24 Australia Founder David Fell says, “Fast, fun and safe, Revolve24 is a team endurance challenge suited to riders of any skill level. We’re excited to be partnering with the Tour Down Under to deliver another incredible cycling event to the thousands of visitors who come to Adelaide in January. This will be the first major event at The Bend and be the very first time cyclists will have the chance to experience this fabulous track.”
“Circuit challenges allow riders to concentrate on their performance, supporting their team mates. Endurance cycling is growing here in Australia, as it is in many parts of the world and Revolve24 delivers a comprehensive, team-based, endurance challenge to participants,” adds Fell.
South Australian Minister for Tourism, Leon Bignell said Revolve24 was a welcome addition to the Tour Down Under’s nine day festival of cycling.
“Revolve24 will provide amateur riders with an amazing cycling experience not seen before in Australia, along with the thrill of riding on a world-class and newly established motor circuit,” Minister Bignell said.
“This year TDU broke all event records attracting 43,000 cycling fans who travelled specifically to South Australia for the event as 840,000 fans lined our streets. The event generated $56.5 million for the State’s economy and we think the addition of Revolve24 to the calendar will help us to continue to grow the event’s success.
“With next year being the TDU’s 20th edition and with the addition of Revolve24, we hope to reach that magic million mark of fans attending next year’s event. We are delighted to be able to support the sport of cycling in South Australia at both a professional and recreational level.
“We also supported the building of The Bend Motorsport Park and it will be great to see it in action next January.”
Although the 24 hour challenge will be the centrepiece of the weekend, the event will be a festival of cycling with a number of other cycling challenges scheduled to take place over the weekend.
Revolve24 Australia will also be a Race Across America (RAAM) qualifier, the only one in Australia and also included in the UMCA World Cup Series.
