Dorchester Gaol where Martha Brown was hanged, Shire Hall

Shire Hall in the Evening Standard

One of the best bits of our job is story-telling. We immerse ourselves in fascinating personal stories and work with the media to tell them. We’re currently working on the launch of a new museum, the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum in Dorchester, Dorset.

Elizabeth Martha Brown was one of the last women to be publicly hanged in this country. She was held and sentenced at the Shire Hall in 1856. We worked with the Evening Standard to tell the story and explain why it’s still so important today. Have a read of the article here.
