MyGiftClues.com takes the guesswork out of gifting this Christmas
A new way of dropping hints to get the gifts you want
For immediate release
Research shows that as a nation we’re not always the best at gift buying. There’s nothing more awkward than receiving a gift you simply don’t like, in front of the person who bought it for you.
MyGiftClues.com is a new online tool that is revolutionising the way we give and receive this Christmas, banishing panic buying, unwanted gifts and awkward unwrapping moments to the past.
Completely free to use, MyGiftClues.com helps people ensure their hard-earned cash is used to buy something they know will be appreciated by their loved ones, not wasted. Users can create and share their own lists with direct web links to the exact gift they want, complete with images and prices.
Or, if they want more of a surprise, they can create an inspirational scrapbook or mood board, leaving a trail of clues and photos of their preferred colours and styles. It’s easy to set up an account and create a list, such as “My Christmas presents” and then have creative fun by adding images, similar items or even dream experiences to then share with friends and family.
Plus, those really hard-to-buy-for people who always leave you stumped can now reveal a wealth of ideas, making shopping a whole lot easier. Loved ones can share lists filled with inspiring clues, hinting at the ideal gifts they would like to receive. They can prioritise their favourites and a smart checklist shows when someone has elected to buy an item, meaning they won’t receive the same gift twice.
MyGiftClues.com also helps you build a calendar of special events, such as birthdays, to remind you to organise the perfect present in time.
DID YOU KNOW?
2013 research shows that as a nation, we are sitting on £2.4 million of unwanted Christmas presents, worth an average £48.41 each. Socks, ties and lingerie top the UK chart as most unwanted gifts.
Four out of five people have no idea what to get friends and family, with parents, in-laws and partners singled out as the worst offenders for buying the wrong gift.
A poll compiled by Barclays last year revealed ten per cent of Brits leave buying some of their gifts until Christmas Day and end up heading to the local petrol station for a last-minute present. The worst gifts included a can of Spam, a car exhaust, Hoover bags and maggots.
Entrepreneurial Dorset-based mum of three Sarah Gow created the concept of MyGiftClues.com after a shopping trip with a friend, who asked her for advice on what to buy her sister-in-law. Sarah answered, “Well, what do they like and how much are you looking to spend?” She realised that making and sharing gift lists and hints was the way to go and set up MyGiftClues.com with her husband, Alex, who has extensive experience in setting up and growing successful companies.
She says: “We believe MyGiftClues.com improves on other wish list platforms by allowing people to be as creative as they want; curating inspirational pages of ideas and leaving trails of clues for loved ones, rather than simply doing the choosing for them. Shopping for people who are usually impossible to buy for just got a lot easier too. We are taking the guesswork out of giving, yet still ensuring there’s a nice surprise at the end!”
